"Everyone is watching the conclusion a lot more than they have in the past. So, certain designers have scaled back meaning they've cut their invite list in half. Marc Jacobs who is noted for his bold over the top show cut his invite list in half other designers are downscaling moving from the tent in the Bryant Park place to a smaller venue. Still, other designers are leaving the tents altogether to show in both their showrooms or in a cafe or restaurant."

"I seem like I'm watching our contemporaries drop every single day which feeling is much like, you have to remind yourself to remain up, stay up and keep your time high because so many people are falling plus they can't keep up. We've definitely felt it, our sales have been hit, we're dealing with stores closing every single day. People bouncing their shipments back, their checks are bouncing, it is a very hard business right now."

"As far as not going into the doom and gloom on and on dark and gray. There's definitely black and grey within the collection but it's based on color and vibrancy and life. What I feel we want much more of is seeing the light, seeing the brightness there's enough darkness so I went with color."

Financial crisis affects fashion industry runways

It's no surprise that the economical downturn is having a huge impact on business within this country. What's shocking, however, is just what lengths the negative effects of the financial crisis are reaching. The fashion market is starting to crumble under the weight in our country's massive debt, and also the community, including some worldrenowned designers, are adjusting their brands like animals in an unfamiliar environment adapting as quickly as possible to survive.

Designers Vera Wang and Betsey Johnson have set the precedent and have decided to unveil their latest runway collections in a way that coincides with the dire situation happening in the United States. Both designers have decided to pull out of showing their Fall/Winter 2009 collections in Bryant Park during Ny Fashion Week this coming February, citing the failing economy his or her major reason for doing this.

In fashion, the tents at Bryant Park during New York Fashion Week would be the premiere spot to see and become seen, but showing a collection in Bryant Park may cost up to $300,000. So, to parallel the country's current financial situation both Wang and Johnson are opting to house smaller more "intimate" fashion shows at alternate venues.

Wang, known for her intricate wedding dresses, has confirmed she plans to showcase her Fall/Winter 2009 collection close to 150 guests in her New York flagship store. Comparatively speaking, if Wang unveiled her collection in the tents at Bryant Park she'd have invited upwards of 900 buyers, fashion editors and celebrities. This will mark the very first time in 4 years Wang will not be showing in Bryant Park, an unfortunate but understandable realization.

In Women's Wear Daily Wang is quoted as saying, "I don't want to seem irrelevant or unaware of what's going on in the remaining worldnot just the fashion world the intimacy of a smaller show feels a lot more appropriate for this period. I only say that like a business owner, as a designer so that as an individual."

For Johnson, on the other hand, this will mark her very first time inside a steadily successful 5 years that she will not be showing a group in Bryant Park. Johnson has yet to verify where she intends to house her Fall/Winter 2009 runway show, but there is no denying the 66yearold likely has something exciting up her sleeve.

This is the article:

February 2009 is simply nearby with it comes down New York Fashion Week; and seemingly the event's sheer statistics are enough to focus on the current troubles facing the style industry considering the world's economic woes.

Last season IMG Fashion, which organizes Fashion Week, boasted more than 80 designers on its schedule. However, only 52 have been confirmed for February Fashion Week to date.

Mallis expects designers to try and cut costs by staging presentations instead of runway shows. Just renting a tent that seats 350 to 1,100 people costs $25,000 to $50,000 and that doesn't range from the hair, makeup, models, whoever else.
